I received this voice text from Maybe Gray yesterday:
I can see that this is truly a passion project, and it is not just a personal passion, but a passion that comes to you from a daemon that was sent to you.
I also received this one from Lubomir Arsov:
I like what you said about the Stoa, and how you are trying to be nimble, playing chess with cancel culture. I really think you can do it. I believe you are the man for the job. I believe you have been assigned a certain mission.
I am concerned that saying I am on a spiritual mission might sound like self-congratulatory spiritual narcissism, but I confess it does put fire in my belly. I am listening to Kanye again, and I am feeling that knife's edge again, and I am ready to attempt to emancipate the daemon again.
What is going to happen? Maybe nothing much. Maybe this thing I am calling the daemon is not sent from God, as Maybe suggested to me. This project could get cancelled and it could become, God forbid, corporate. I have some of that divine madness at the moment, and I am mad enough to think things will be different this time. Fuck thinking, I sense things will be different this time. This may be foolhardy, but I want to plug back into the primordial language.
If Stoicism is about getting into the right relationship with reality, then it is critical to be in the right relationship with the daemon. As I wrote to Jordan Hall in our letter exchange: The term eudaimonia—often translated as happiness by those with modernist sensibilities—comes from the words eu (good) and daemon. We might describe eudaimonia as having a good relationship with your daemon.
If I were to rewrite the above today, I would change your daemon to the daemon. It is best not to risk having an I-It relationship with the daemon by thinking it is yours. It is best to attempt an I-Thou relationship. I do not just want to have a good relationship though, I want to have a great one. I want to have one that could become a great love affair.
I am becoming horny right now and I want to wake up Camille by sensually ravishing her. I am not going to do that though. It is time to harness this energy, and not foolishly release it. I have been flirting too much, risking new relationship energy with multiple women. I do not want to make the old mistakes of the old world and I do not want Camille feeling like she is not my number one.
It is time to do something different, and pivot this insatiable horniness, along with any romantic longings, away from the corporeal. Bonnitta Roy and I are corresponding over email at the moment, and we are talking about emancipating the daemon. I told her that I think this Game A world has imprisoned the daemon.
Sure, conjugal visits have been better than nothing, but if we are going to have a great love affair we will need to make love to the daemon in the wild.
