Somebody in my coaching practice just asked me a really good question: what is the thematic throughline that is showing up in my coaching practice?

One common throughline is “the question” that The Stoa and its steward is currently living with: how do we fucking live our lives?

Another common throughline is this: how do we play “Game In-Between”?

I've written about Game In-Between before, without bestowing it that name, referencing two past guests who used clean metaphors to describe this game:

When Daniel Christian Wahl visited The Stoa he mentioned that the dual role needed during the transition is to be hospice workers of the old system, while being midwives of the new system, and when Jim Rutt last visited he talked about how “Game B” needs to parasitize “Game A” in order to extract resources from it.

Fuckin' eh. Game In-Between will make intuitive sense for those who are aware of the Game A and Game B lingo. It is the game that requires both I-It relational skills and I-Thou relational skills. It is also the game that requires the ability to hustle and the ability to surrender.

Each person’s “Game In-Between” will have to be bespokely discovered, but I think it is going to be very hard, if not impossible, to bespokely discover this alone. You need some friends for this, some virtuous friends. These will be friends that can hold space for you, while putting you at the edge of your thinking in a loving way, and who are in service towards your most heavenly self.

I sense the future will be a future where these “friendships of virtue” will be a common thing. I have a strong sense now of how to bring this about, and I sense I will play a role in bringing this about. Today is Marcus Aurelius's birthday, so I might as well make a bold prediction:

The future will belong to those who are friends in virtue.
