November 14th, 2021
We are really digging the Danish vibes, so we decided to stay longer in Copenhagen. I can see why this city consistently ranks as one of the happiest in the world. Some readers did reply to my previous entry about my first impression of Copenhagen, teasing me that I am romanticizing the people here. Guilty!
I am having so much fun connecting with Copenhageners. I was hanging out with Danish philosopher Ole Bjerg on Friday; he is the author of Making Money: The Philosophy of Crisis Capitalism, and visited us at The Stoa a few times before. We got some pizza, drove to this bromance spot facing the water, and philosophized together in his car like two existential gangsters.
We talked about him returning to The Stoa to launch an innovative course on getting into the right relationship with money, something combining his sophisticated philosophical understanding of money with his training in family constellations, aka a money constellation. Camille and I are going to his office soon so he can test out one of these constellations on me. I am so excited about this.
Ole’s take on the COVID situation was very fascinating - there are two things spreading, COVID-19 and “corona.” While COVID is a contagious respiratory disease, corona is something more spiritual in nature, inviting us to a heavenly world. It is a secret invite of course. While everyone has been invited, not everyone has been able to see their invitation. The etymology of the word corona is “crown,” and according to Ole’s spiritual interpretation, this means sovereignty.
The spread of corona is inviting us to wake up, encouraging us to become more conscious, so we can take our crowns and become sovereign. This was all very cool to hear, because Ole is not plugged into the Game B scene or the sovereign thoughts of Jordan Hall, nor was he aware that the telos of Beyond Self-Discipline was a cultivation of sovereignty.
It was March of 2020 when I started these journals, and this was when COVID and corona came online. This was back when people were hoarding toilet paper and meme jokes were spreading on Twitter about how the apocalypse was upon us. I sense those meme jokes were correct: our world, or at least some part of it, was ending, and something new was taking its place.
The etymology of the word apocalypse is to "uncover, disclose, reveal,” and for those who are experiencing what Saint John (Vervaeke) - patron saint of our religion that is not a religion - calls “reciprocal opening,” then a greater expansion of consciousness is arriving, along with all the old scripts burning. This is scary of course, as the old scripts were comfortingly supporting what is.
As a Stoic with strong spiritual Christian proclivities, I am seeing this corona-inspired apocalypse as God's way to get us to wake up. There is a theodicy suggested by John Hicks called “soul-making” - God allows evil and suffering to exist in the world because it will help us become spiritual beings. Is soul-making true? I do not really care, because we can never conclusively prove it is true via logical reasoning, regardless of how coherent the arguments are.
I do care what Hicks’ argument does to my awareness of my body though. It makes me lean into what is - the fear, the uncertainty, the doubts, alchemizing them towards what is heavenly. I am going to be grateful for God’s soul-making opportunity during these corona days, as it is helping me be in my body more, which is to say it is helping me arrive home.
