I woke up this morning to remember that my wife has pink hair. Camille turned her hair pink yesterday and it turns me on. When I see a woman with pink hair I find it cartoonishly hot and naughty, and I am glad I will find Camille looking cartoonishly hot and naughty for the rest of the summer.
I got out of bed a little after 5:30 AM, playfought with Socrates, then texted Christopher Mastropietro a quote from Marcus Aurelius, and checked if we were still on for coffee. It turns out Christopher lives close by to where Camille and I are currently staying, which is great. My former Zoom drinking buddy is now my morning chill in the park cortado buddy.
Talking to Christopher this morning was a treat. Talking to him is always a treat. The guy is such a poet and has a deep respect for the spoken word. Speaking with an individual of his caliber is inspiring and now I am writing here inspired. I will be jumping on the Psychotechnology Playground session at The Stoa soon, with my #1 crush Bonnitta Roy. Afterward I am going to lift some weights in the summer heat, followed by a Collective Presencing session with Ria Baeck.
What then will this Stoic do? There is so much to do.
I want to visit my parents. Maybe I will surprise them and chill with them for a bit. I also want to get to writing projects I have in the pipeline: a section for John Vervaeke’s Dialogos anthology, a white paper on “pandemic incivility” for Dale Carnegie Training, a possible piece with Rebecca Fox on Chapel Perilous. I also want to publish my How to Be a Stoic During the Meta-Crisis on Amazon for August.
Other projects: I want to invite a lot of thinkers and psychotechnology practitioners to The Stoa, and I need to do some thinking on revamping the gift economy model, and Raven and I are talking about doing some Zoom performance art thingy. There is more, but the daemon is not pointing me in any obvious direction to put my focus. I am sensing I need a new project management system for all of my life's projects, one that can help with prioritization.
Having a good system is wise, and I like Scott Adams's provocative “goals are for losers, systems are for winners” assertion. Having isolated goals, which are not tethered to a system that is sensitive to your ecology of goals, is a losing strategy. Since The Stoa started I have been operating both in a goalless and systemless fashion. I was just doing, without any planning or even thinking really.
Now the time seems right to adopt or develop a success system that can wisely prioritize my focus. I have experimented with different success techniques and systems, such as SMART goals, the Kanban method, mind mapping, David Allen’s Getting Things Done, the Pomodoro technique, Don't Break the Chain, etc.
What should this system look like? Maybe I will leverage the collective intelligence here to source one. My sense is that it needs to be a bespoke system though, one that fits my temperament and proclivities.

Gift Economy / The Stoa currently operates through a gift economy. We are offering the Stoa as a gift, for people to freely use during these troubled times. If you are inspired to provide a gift to The Stoa, email thestoa at protonmail dot com. Your gift can take the form of money, support, services or ideas. If you wish to gift money, you can do so here or here for ongoing gifts. If you would like to gift directly to our lovely facilitators and featured sensemakers visit this page.
